IMPORTANT: Because different tracking systems measure traffic differently, we will go ONLY by our tracking system AND your RAW server logs to measure the total amount of visitors we have delivered to your website. Go to Top Why does my counter show a different number of visitors than the stats you are providing me?
The most common cause for the differences in your data and ours is the
lack of server resources your stats reside on your webhost.
In order to maximize the effectiveness of ANY stats program, a MINIMUM
of 512mb of RAM must be installed on that server. Another common cause
is that a lot of sites use free hit counters or those found within
Frontpage. These have a specific bandwidth limit and once the bandwidth
for a particular time is filled then the rest of the hits will not be
registered.
Several factors may prevent visitors from actually making
a request to your server:
* The visitor is on a slow connection and cancelled the request.
* Your site was unavailable (down) or extremely slow.
* The visitor's browser or Internet Provider saved a
previous copy of your site and used that, instead.
* More than one visitor is visiting your site at the same time, in
which case your website counter will only count those visits as one
visit total, instead of counting the individual visits separately.
Third-party tracking (which usually shows up as an image
on your page) magnifies these problems to the point that it
should never be used as a reliable tally. Raw Server Logs
are the most accurate method for comparison.
If the ip address is behind a firewall such as AOL users our system
will see it as seperate ips but it will appear as the same ips in the
logs.
This is so that any trace routes that go through to aol users has to go
through the main server rather than the individuals computer.
Your software may not count visits correctly.
Some programs count one IP address for every half-hour interval as a
unique user. The problem with this technique is that it doesn't account
for proxy servers, which are computers that act as agents for multiple
users. For example, MSN and AOL routes all of their subscribers through
a limited number of IP addresses, so any one MSN or AOL IP address can
map back to tens of thousands of separate users. Third party tracking
software sometimes fails to take this into account, which can result in
incorrect numbers for you.
This protects them from assualts. Our system uses ip, cookies, and
software id to keep the users unique.
